Is there any research out there that supports an herb or medication which actually assists memory?

I am looking for anything besides ginkgo biloba....please help

Is there any research out there that supports an herb or medication which actually assists memory?
Melatonin-- you can buy it at GNC or any other health store... It also helps with mild depression.
Reply:No, there isn%26#039;t. Germany is probably the best country to look for answers for herbal meds and if they are truly effective, because Germany has done the most studies on them. However, there is nothing available, according to reasearch and the FDA, that will improve memory loss. Sorry. The best thing to do is to try to keep the mind as active as possible. Force yourself to learn new things, perform tasks with both hands, not just your dominant one, and look for things that will act as brain-teasers, such as games and puzzles that make you really think (Suduko).
Reply:my grandmother swears by cod liver oil. you can buy it at any drug store.
Reply:Try Ginkgo, and/or Ginseng

Herbal remedies - good?

Anyone have tried herbal remedies like ginseng, kava root or ginkgo biloba? Is it good for your body? do you feel the change you expect to achieve? how about long term effect? anything you need to watch? ADVERTISERS DO NOT POST - YOU RUIN THE OBJECTIVITY NATURE OF THE DISCUSSION!!!

Herbal remedies - good?
Herbal remedies are VERY effective, but should not be used unless they are truly needed. Although many people assume that herbs are %26quot;safe%26quot; because they%26#039;re natural, that is wrong. They are powerful medicines that should be used with care.

If you have specific health needs, you can either pick up a copy of %26quot;Nutritional Healing%26quot; by James Balch. It provides a good overview of natural remedies that can be used to treat a large number of medical conditions.

I would highly recommend doing a lot of research before beginning to take any herbal remedy. Some herbs have drug interactions with prescription meds, and some can be hazardous when taken a dosage that is too hgh.

Do you know anyone who knows a lot about herbs? See if you can take them out for coffee sometime and ask them about the different supplements you%26#039;re interested in taking and why you want to take them. If you check the Yellow Pages, you may be able to find Master Herbalists, Naturopathic Doctors, or Integrative MDs who will help you make wise decisions about supplements that will improve your health.

I wish you the best of luck!!!

Reply:I used to take ginseng for many years and my tiredness was

gone after 2 weeks treatment. But watch out that the local

ginseng products are only imitation and not effective. The

original ginseng extract is very effective. This is very

expensive as the process to do this is long. I had to stop

this for 2 years now due to the costs. Specially because y

wife and me both were doing this. For a 3 months consumption

you%26#039;ll have to pay approx $ 400 for 2 persons for 3 months

period. You normally take a 2 months break and start once

more this procedure.

I for myself will now start taking this again. Please note I am

not from ginseng industry(travel industry). So do not

mis-understand.
Reply:i know for fact that taking ginkgo biloba is very dangerous. i had friend who took that %26amp; her entire personality changed. she started actin real hyper, greedy %26amp; doin crazy things. those products are not good. later on life i think there will be dread effects.
Reply:I have used herbal remedies for about 15 years, and with very good results. I will never take a toxic pharmaceutical drug (prescriptions), specifically because toxic pharmaceutical synthetic drugs are the cause of over 200,000 deaths each year in the U.S.A. The so-called %26quot;side effects%26quot; are the effects of dangerous drugs upon your body. Search the Web for Andrew Weil,M.D., a brilliant intergrative physician, who will give you the most accurate, unbiased information re herbal renedies.
Reply:DONT DO IT!!! its really bad for you. people may claim that because its %26quot;natural%26quot; that its safe, but you%26#039;ll see strange behaviors popping up and uncontrolable mood swings
Reply:I%26#039;ve never tried kava root. I know a person with bipolar disorder who tried kava root a couple of times and got manic both times, so it might not be good to use with bipolar disorder. I like gingko for memory support. Ginseng kind of wakes me up without caffeine if I drink it in the morming.
Reply:I have tried Ginseng and I loved it, it kept me alert, I would take it during school and during exams. I prefer it to things like Red Bull.

Ginkgo Biloba, I took it for awhile when I was depressed, I also enjoyed it, I took 5HTP at the same time and seemed to be in a much better mood.

The only %26#039;energy%26#039; supplement I take daily is Prosit, it is from Africa and contains a cousin of the Aloe Vera plant. It cleans your blood and colon, getting your organs talking to each other, this seems to keep my energy levels up.

I am going to add a foot note about 5HTP, I enjoyed using it for a short period of time, but was warned not to use it for long periods.

Good luck,

How do I boost my Energy Levels and keep concentration?

I have two problems here lack of and/or diminishing energy as the day progresses and dips in concentration. Most days, I will go for a run (2-5 miles a day), practise 1/2 - 1hr on the piano and go to work (part time). I have just started attending college (part time, three times a week) and I am concerned that I will not be able to sustain my concentration and energy levels. I usually drink one can of red bull a day (just before work), like I said I do exercise and play the piano, which I find both relaxing and I go to bed early. The problem is if I go to bed around 10-11pm I will wake up around 2-3.00 am and then will get back to sleep around 4am. I feel ok in the morning but as the day drags on my energy and concentration saps. I already take Sanotogen Gold A-Z multivitamins as well as Evening Primrose Oil and Ginkgo Biloba - I cannot take Ginseng as I suffer from bad headaches and migraines.

Any top tips to keep my energy and concentration levels up throughout the day, please

How do I boost my Energy Levels and keep concentration?
have you tried st, johns wart it my help vitiamin b-12 is supoost to give you energy to.other than that it sounds like your doing all you can. the other thing is they say if you can take a cat nap for 15 to 20 minutes a day they say that will give you a boost of energy.
Reply:Speed..

comes both illegally and pharmaceutically
Reply:your circulation slows down and your brain becomes stangnat after you have been sitting for 40 minutes. Take 1-2 minute breaks every 35-45 minutes
Reply:Honey red bull equals to 5 cups of coffee with the same proportion of sugar, what sugar does, it%26#039;s that it boosts you for a couple of hours and the you crash, so watch what you eat, a healthy diet can do wonders on you; if you still need extra boost, there%26#039;s these little red bottles thats say 5 vitamines whatever, it helps a lot without the crashing; you can get them in GNC or at gas stations, it will help you.
Reply:Sounds like you are vitamin B deficient. There is a company called Market America. They market 2 products one is called Isotonix B- Complex which will give you energy and possibly eliminate your head aches. The second product by the same company is called Macho Tonix this is an all natural supplement that will give you a 6 to 8 hour energy boost and enhance your mental clarity and not give you the crash effects of red bull. hope this helps.
Reply:You could try switching around the foods that you eat. Make sure you get a larger high energy meal for breakfast and then something lighter at night. It might help you sleep better at night too. Also instead of red bull, tea or coffee before work, you should try fruit juices. Eeeer making sure you are fully relaxed before going to bed might help too (e.g. yoga or just giving yourself 10 minutes without tv/reading). I%26#039;m not an expert but i%26#039;ve tried so many things myself.
Reply:Besides an energy multivitamin every day you could also take chlorophyll, barley grass or wheat grass.

Healthy regiment of pills?

I%26#039;m an 18 year old male who has no known chronic diseases. I would go as far to say that I%26#039;m very healthy.

I was wondering if it was bad to continue the following variety pills: ginkgo, melatonin, and green tea (not a pill).

What if I was to add serotonin, omega3, or both?

Is this bad?

Healthy regiment of pills?
you could get a protein shake. most of the better ones contain all the supplements you are already taking. take 2 shakes a day and you wont have to take pills. you%26#039;ll get the same from the protein plus the benefit of amino acids.
Reply:Do you have problems remembering things? Ginkgo is a good herb to help brain function as it%26#039;s a vaso-dialator herb, but at 18 it should not be necessary. Melatonin is a hormone and at 18 it could cause you harm, check with a doctor before using melatonin, and the green tea is alright and wont do you any harm, but may contain caffeine. You do not need any additional serotonin unless your doctor tells you you do. The omega 3 would be okay as that will help with brain function and helps folks prone to ADD or ADHD.

Sounds like you are anxious to waste your money. Go talk to your Dr. or a good nutritionist. That would help you.
Reply:at age 18- ginkgo is not necessary

drink the green tea instead

I%26#039;d add a Multi vitamin

no its not bad
Reply:I think you are a little confused on your supplements. Add serotonin?? omega3 and ginko biloba regulates your serotonin... It is not bad to drink green tea with all of hte above. Green Tea is the cure all and everyone should be drinking it
Reply:what is the reason for you to take all those pills?

if you%26#039;re eating a balanced diet and sleeping at least 7 hours a night, you don%26#039;t need any of those fad pills.

if you want to drink green tea, go for it, it cleanses your system, but does have caffein so dont overdo it.
Reply:A doctor or pharmacist would be best equipped to answer your question. You don%26#039;t want to mix something that could be potentially harmful to you.

Is mixing these drugs or suppliments okay?

Is mixing, GINGKO BILOBOA120mg/daily(brain food for focus and alterness), L-theanine 200mg/daily(relaxation -- known to help with stress), Antenolol 50mg daily(high blood pressure), and FISH OIL100mg/daily (suppose to help with brain development) okay?

I just want to know if someone out there knows cause I%26#039;ve been taking those every morning all at once and just wanted to see if that was okay. I take two ginkgo biloba capsules daily, two L-theanine capsules daily, one high blood pressure medicine daily, and one fish oil. I%26#039;m thinking of added ONE A DAY FOR MEN too! I Take all of these in the morning all at once.

Is mixing these drugs or suppliments okay?
I have taken that combination before and I am fine. I really think you don%26#039;t need to worry about it. I took WAYYYYYYY more supplements and pills than that. I typed it up for my doctor and she said %26quot;fine%26quot;- %26quot;good job%26quot;. But it wouldn%26#039;t hurt for you to type up a list so your doctor knows everything you are taking. Good luck.
Reply:No, tell your doctor what you are taking (that means all of the suppliments). They might react badly with each other.
Reply:go to webmd.com

i think they do a drug comparison to check for interactions.
Reply:NOT GOOD! Never take to much of one thing and be careful of what you take. Any wrong move could cause serious illness or even death! But your fine now, right?

What supplements will help me think more clear?

i have tried focus factor and also tried some choline pills with ginkgo and DMAE in them. i need some supplements to help me in my math class. i used to be able to think so clear and would be able to understand everything just by taking a glance at it and teaching myself. now i feel like i dont understand it very well. i cant think as clear and quick as i used to. i used to be a very quick thinker and now im a very slow thinker. what supplements would provide my brain nutrients to help me think? or any other suggestions?or any natural supplements to help with depression? i am depressed and ive read that depression causes you to think slow.

What supplements will help me think more clear?
There are a lot of Herbal Supplements you can take, this one is one that I drink. You can check the label on all the products before you purchase anything:

My favorite is MochaTonix

http://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/i...

But you might be more interested in something like VitaMind

http://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/i...

Both links have all the information you need on both products

but if you would like to find out what would best fit your body and what would benefit you the most, I recommend you take a Questionnaire called a Nutri-Physical and get a custom supplement made only for your needs

https://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/...
Reply:Sure you can take supplements but they really are not going to help you very much. You got to find out what is causing you to have this %26quot;brain fog%26quot; in the first place. Depression may be a contributing factor. How is your sleep lately? Are you waking up feeling like you slept good? Usually you get %26quot;brain fog%26quot; when you are tired. You are probably not getting enough sleep.
Reply:There are supplements that %26quot;say%26quot; they help with depression, but I wouldn%26#039;t recommend them. If you%26#039;re under 18, you need to talk to your parents. It would be best for you to see a doctor. There may be an underlying cause for your %26quot;brain fog.%26quot; If the doctor diagnoses you with depression, he or she will be able to give you the proper treatment. If you don%26#039;t want to take medications, then ask the doctor to recommend and herbal treatment. Although they are herbal remedies, they can be dangerous.

Is an intake of Ginseng tea in the morning and Ginko tea at night going to help me and my brain?

I would like to better my mental ability, specially with midterms coming up, and was referred to ginseng and ginkgo biloba. Since I can%26#039;t pick between the two, and I don%26#039;t like pills I decided to drink their teas. Would that diet work? One cup of each a day.

Or does anyone recommend either or to avoid taking both?

Is an intake of Ginseng tea in the morning and Ginko tea at night going to help me and my brain?
Ginseng and Ginkgo are going to work better TOGETHER than separately. And they%26#039;re going to work best for about 4 hours after you consume them. No sense taking Ginkgo at night.

Here%26#039;s another solution to the non-pill thing. Herbs, Etc. makes a liquid extract called %26quot;Remember Now%26quot; that is alcohol based. You just put the drops in some fruit juice or water and drink. It has Ginkgo, Gotu Kola and Eleuthero (aka Siberian Ginseng) as well as other herbs. You can order it online: http://www.herbsetc.com/Shopping/r/remem...

Or you can buy Ginkgo %26amp; Ginseng as liquid extracts and make your own combo. The extracts are stronger than any tea you can mix up.
Reply:Hello,

it is ok to take both herbs daily. They are both safe. Just to let you know the pills are usually stronger in mg%26#039;s. For your studies and or mid terms i would suggest taking an amino acid called L-phenylalanine, it boosts your concentraiton levels to an astounding level. Its safe and you can buy it at GNC health food store
Reply:A bright brain depends on good blood circulation, balanced meals, good assimulation in the intestines, exercise, regular sleep, BREATHING, meditation, and some herbs. Attitude will help. No cigarettes, alcohol, preservatives, or Big Macs. Lots of raw fruit and vegetables. Fiber from nuts, seeds, and grains will help. See now wasn%26#039;t that easy?

I am forgetful, careless and clumsy. Can I change this?

I don%26#039;t want everybody to think I%26#039;m completely stupid - I%26#039;m not - but I am chronically forgetful, tend to trip, drop or walk into things and seem to exude unprofessionalism. My friends all think it%26#039;s funny, and generally smile at my antics. But I%26#039;m in my late teens and I still have so many dumb accidents I just feel like a little kid.

Is there any way I can seem more in control of myself? My mind... it is fine for schoolwork, I have a great memory for facts and details, and have got straight As for years. But the mundane matters of everyday life? Well, they go in one ear and out the other, as they say. I write stuff down sometimes, then what do I do but lose the darn piece of paper!

I also do this a lot: begin telling someone something and then midway through a sentence, forget what I was talking about, even how the sentence was going to end. Often I feel as though my mind is elsewhere and my talk is just surface babble.

Apart from ginkgo tablets, is there anything I can do?! Help!

I am forgetful, careless and clumsy. Can I change this?

Reply:If you try really hard and want to change, you can do it! GO FOR IT (if you feel like it)
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry about it.

One day you will be laying in your coffin and, by that time, nobody will care that you did dumb things when you were so young.

So, don%26#039;t worry about it. Enjoy yourself and things will work out.
Reply:Maybe you should hypno-therapy. Seems like you%26#039;ve already tried everything else.
Reply:I try to tell you something that could help you, but sadly I%26#039;m a forgetful and careless person too, just like you are!!! so I can%26#039;t say anything at all jejeje. If you find something to do about it, please tell me!!! Thnxs!!!
Reply:Forgetfulness and carelessness are sign of arrogance or conceit. I don%26#039;t know about the clumsyness maybe your heads too big for your body. lol
Reply:Maybe you need to slow down and take a deep breath. Take the extra couple of seconds to compose yourself. Get yourself a voice activated pocket organizer. Get your daily information there, you wont loose that. Make sure you are getting proper nutrition. When you are hungry, its hard to think clearly. You are just going through an awkward stage right now. It will pass. Good luck.

What food items or behaviours or states of mind...make arthritis worse?

I have the beginnings of rheumatoid arthritis in my hands (and possibly hips.) (My hips are very sore upon waking on the side I%26#039;m lying on- so this could just be a pressure soreness.) My Mum had the same condition in her hands. Swollen joints, inflammation, deforming the joints. Not painful unless I squeeze the joint. Worst in my little fingers and pointing fingers. I wonder what causes arthritis and/or what foods agrevate it? I have started %26quot;Healtheries%26quot; Arthrex Bones and Joints dietary supplement containing Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Devil%26#039;s claw and celery seed. I also take cod liver oil as my skin and hair have become very dry. I am only 49 and just want to do whatever to prevent this condition from becoming a disibility. Has anyone had experience of things that work which I could try. I don%26#039;t want a whole lot of adverts for products but if possible simple foods to eat and not eat or other dietary advice.

What food items or behaviours or states of mind...make arthritis worse?
Red meat is bad, so are acidic foods, I%26#039;ve heard that tomatoes are bad too but I%26#039;ve never had trouble with them. Basically, eat healthy foods and you%26#039;ll be allright.

Try Flaxseed Oil, Glucosamine, Green Lipped Mussel Extract and Devils Claw, I%26#039;m not advertising, just saying what works for me.

And also, it%26#039; very rare to get R.A. in your hips so it is probably just soreness.

its always okay to take vitamins...your body just wont take all of them in if you are not doing any physical activities or sports. if you are working out than your body needs more vitamins so it will absorb more.

Can I take more than 1 herb at the same time of day?

Currently taking Ginkgo (80 mg 3 times day) , Rhodiolia (3.5 rosavins, 150mg 3xday) and Ashwangandha (1.5 withanadolides (sp?) . 940 mg 2x day) .

Should I space them out or can I take them all at once?

Can I take more than 1 herb at the same time of day?
You can absolutely take them all at once. Ashwaghanda is traditionally taken at night in warm milk. It is an adaptogen that facilitates sleep. Rhodiola is also an adaptogen but is best in the morning or during the day as it should have an energizing effect. Herbs are great in combination. Gotu Kola is nice with ginkgo. By the way, I have never heard of or experienced antioxidant overdose, and I take a lot of supercritical extractions of herbal antioxidants. Also, these herbs are not antioxidants in a general sense. Maybe ginkgo has some properties, but definitely not in that classification. Sounds great; the best way is to listen to your body, and see how you are feeling. I take 10s of 20s of 30s of herbal combinations daily and I work in an herbal store.
Reply:You can take them all together but they seem like high doses to be taking all of them 2 and 3 times a day.

You maybe should cut down the amounts or just take one in the am, one in the afternoon and one at night. You can overdose too much antioxidents.
Reply:Either is fine. They are safe to be taken together.

Which vitamins/nutrients/supplements that are safe, can I take for increasing happiness and mood? *nothing illegal, obviously* I%26#039;m currently taking Ginkgo, but that%26#039;s for memory and brain function. What about overall happiness and mood, kinda like an anti-depressant vitamin. Any ideas? thx -

Vitamins/Nutrients to Increase mood?
A vitamin B complex can be helpful and perhaps a mineral supplement. The best way though is to find out what might be out of balance for you individually. If you are deficient on zinc you%26#039;ll find it harder to be happy as well.

You can use muscle testing to find out what it is that you need and how much. That is the best way and saves you from taking unnecessary supplements as well.
Reply:B vitamin complex. vitamin D and DHA fish oil

Brainpower supplements?

I was wondering if any of these supplements are safe for a 21 y/o with no known allergies, takes no other medicines (with an exeption of Excedrin for migranes).

Phosphatidyl Serine

Ginkgo Biloba

Vinpocetine

Saint John%26#039;s Wort

Folic Acid

Fish Oil

Also, are there any good safe supplements for the digestive system and the heart.

Any Input Muchly Appreciated!!!

Brainpower supplements?
The first and third are questionable, but the rest are great. The folic acid and fish oil are great for your heart and circulation as well. Black tea, Green tea, and Oolong tea would make a wonderful addition for digestion and heart. They are also good for the brain.
Reply:Actually, most of those are some of the most popular brain health products on the market. Phosphatidylserine is expensive, but still one of the most popular items because of the effectiveness. Vinpocetine isn%26#039;t as popular, but it has rather specific benefits that many people don%26#039;t need the nutrition of (dizziness and headaches are common mentions) so they don%26#039;t feel the benefits. Ginkgo and Fish Oil are the typical and most common brain health supplements on the market.

However, St. John%26#039;s Wort and Folic Acid aren%26#039;t really for brain health or concentration. St. John%26#039;s Wort is more for mood and emotional support; Folic Acid is really just for Cardiovascular health and benefits for pregnancy.

What is the nutritional or natural methods to dispel all risperdal effects?

I have been being forced to take risperdal, a psychiatric drug for about 10 months now, and I am afraid I am having a declining health. I tried searching for a legal assistance for me to quit taking risperdal because I believe it is an unsafe drug, but I do not think I am able to find one in my place, Singapore. I think what I can do now is to reduce the effects of risperdal using natural or nutritional methods, or probably by taking food supplements. Can anyone suggest to me some ways?

(Is taking ginkgo a good option?)

Recently, I've felt dizzy upon standing. Is this something I should be concerned about?

This past week, almost everyday when I stand after laying down or sitting for an extended period, I get dizzy.

I%26#039;m a 24 year old male, near my target weight, (5%26#039;10%26#039;%26#039;, 150 lbs) but I drink a lot of caffiene and, take ritalin for ADD as needed (although I%26#039;ve been proscribed 10 mg, I usually only take about 1 or 2 at a setting). I jog 30 minutes almost everyday and don%26#039;t drink or take any drugs, but I don%26#039;t eat particularly well.

My parents have emergency health insurance only, so going to a physician would be very expensive. Is there any way that I could diagnose this and should I be concerned?

Medications/Supplements:

Benedril, Ritalin, Ginkgo Biloba

Recently, I%26#039;ve felt dizzy upon standing. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Possible low blood pressure. Try using one of the testers at a pharmacy counter - note that some are very accurate while others are not. A pharmacist can tell you how offen the machine is calibrated. But you%26#039;ve got a lot of other issues going on too.

(also, dizzy like the room spins or dizzy like feel like you could pass out? they can have different causes)

PS: Eat better!
Reply:Go see your doctor. Mixing drugs, even over-the counter drugs, can affect your bloodpressure. It sounds as though its high, which would explain your dizziness.

Im not a doctor, but your symptoms sound alot like mine did before I was diagnosed with Hypertension. Dont wait, dont take my word. GO SEE A DOCTOR%26gt; ASAP
Reply:go see your doctor there could be a huge problem. Or it could be lack of sleep.
Reply:Could be that you are standing up too quickly. Or, since you say that you don%26#039;t eat well then it could be that you have a iron deficiency. Eat some more green vegetables and nuts, it will help you.
Reply:could be your immune system is weak. you should try building your immune system with natural juice like mangosteen and you should take antioxidant.
Reply:This can be caused by a sudden drop of blood pressure. If this is the case the dizziness doesn%26#039;t last long. You can sit on the side of the bed and dangle your feet for a minute or two before getting out of bed. Get up out of the chair a little slower. This should help keep you from geting as dizzy if it is a change in blood pressure. If this continues especially after trying these things, you need to see a Dr. You may also want to see if there are any interactions between the medicines you are taking.
Reply:It is called postural hypotension. It has many causes, incuding many medications and often caffeine.

Like any other symptom, it indicates omething is wrong. Seeing a physcian is the wisest thing to do.

Once you start taking things like neuro ps to help mental function, do you develop a dependence?

maybe %26quot;dependence%26quot; isn%26#039;t the right word. you know how you can get endorphins flowing from drugs, etc. and once you get a rush of them, it is hard to achieve the same feeling with the same amount later (like decensatization -sp?) so does the same things happen for mental performance supplements like b-12, neurops, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, etc.??? lots of people say they notice a difference when they stop taking these things, but does that mean that they really helped them or they just are having a hard time without them because their brain got used to them?

Once you start taking things like neuro ps to help mental function, do you develop a dependence?
I was taking B-12 and magnesium among other things and I had to stop for three weeks and the first couple of days were totally horrible. So I don%26#039;t know but I%26#039;m pretty sure they do help because I%26#039;ve noticed that since I%26#039;ve stopped taking them I%26#039;ve had trouble keeping my priorities straight and staying motivated.

Are these period rumors true?

is it true that you can make your period come sooner by

(a.) jumping on a trampoline (b.) taking in a LOT of vit. c (c.) taking in a LOT of ginger or (d.) taking ginkgo or aspirin? i was reading and a lot of these caught me by surprise.

thnx for the info.

Are these period rumors true?
Yeah and you can stop a period for 9 months by getting pregnant, pretty awesome huh?
Reply:nope
Reply:first of all, i dont see why you would want it to come sooner. talk about a pain in the ***! or should i say uterus? anyways. i dont know if these are true. the vitamin one could be true because the more nutrition you get the sooner you may start, but its just a theory. other than that it sounds like a lot of crap. hope this helps!
Reply:not that I have heard of.
Reply:I dont know.... but if you take birth control, you can just control when it comes. =] And if you dont eat... it will stop coming because your body doesnt feel it has enough nutrients to reproduce. I guess the vitamins could effect it by MAKING it come....
Reply:Um, no. None of those are true. Your period is going to come when it is due to come. Question is, why do you want your period to come sooner? A) You think your pregnant. Answer: the pregnancy tests are valid way more earlier than in previous years. B) you are going on vacation and want to get it out of the way. Answer: if you are on the pill, you can take your pills for two months consecutive, no sugar pills and it won%26#039;t hurt you. You%26#039;ll just skip a month. No worries. or C) you are young and just want your period to come. Answer: Don%26#039;t rush it honey. Was I close???
Reply:most likely not
Reply:never heard of any of those!
Reply:Ginger, ginkgo and aspirin are all blood thinners, so although your period will come at the same time, your body will expel the thinner blood slightly faster, and you may start bleeding up to a day before you expect it. Of course, you are also risking the side effects of miscarriage, uncontrolled bleeding, major bruising and rupturing a gastric ulcer (if you have one).

Exercise (not just trampolining!) can also make your period seem to come slightly earlier because the blood will be expelled faster at the start of the period, but it makes no difference to the actual biology of your reproductive system.
Reply:heck no I jump on the trampoline all the time, mine still comes around the same time, I eat healthy and i know i eat alot of vitamins in my food. I dont think that this is true, at least not with me anyway!!!
Reply:Nope..it all has to do with hormones!
Reply:nope
Reply:no they aren%26#039;t

dont worry though, they are just trying to scare you
Reply:Ive never heard of any of that.. but i doubt they do anything
Reply:No your period is caused by hormones and such in your body, jumping and these things can not make it start latter, sooner or anything else. although there are things out there that would cause period issues, like lossing too much weight and stuff
Reply:Nope, they are so not true.
Reply:Not true at all.

Do over the counter remedies work for Menopause?

I am having a terrible time with this Menopause thing and wanted to know if anyone out there has experienced these over-the-counter remedies instead of taking hormones subscribed by the drs? I don%26#039;t want to go that route for I have a high percentage of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.. in my family as it is, so figure I don%26#039;t need anymore added on at this point. I already deal with diabetes (boarder-line), and heart disease, so would like to stay clear of them. I realize that each one acts differently on everyone person but thought I would get some advice.

Here is a list of some:

Black Cohosh

Red Clover

St.John%26#039;s Wart

Ginkgo

Help with vitamins and herbs please.?

Hi basically, I have just received some vitamins and herbs from zipvit.co.uk and have a few questions. I fear I maybe overdosing on something and worry that I am in danger. I have got Milk Thistle 5700mg, echinacea300mg + goldseal100mg, vitamin b12 100ug, kelp+alfalfa, ginkgo biloba6000mg, rhodiola150mg...

Even if I am not overdosing on the main ingredients, what about these side ingredients? What are they? are they safe and do u think I am overdosing? or are they in tiny amounts??Dicalcium phosphate, mcc/vivapur102, sipernat22s, stearic acid bp, magnesium stearate, cellulose, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose bp, gelatin, cyanocobalamin 1% preparation, protein coating.

I am worried because I understand these ingredients are poisons. I also have a multivitamin a day and drink 2 ensure plus drinks (for bad nutrition from ulcerative colitis). I have more energy lately, but is my health/liver at risk?

Thanks for any help you could give me :) sorry its so long-winded.

Help with vitamins and herbs please.?
I had a similar regimen to that once, and it made me terribly ill.
Reply:It sounds like what you are taking are synthetic vitamins. They are usually made by drug companies and yes, you can cause yourself harm by taking them.

If you are looking to supplement your diet with vitamins, you should look into whole food vitamins. Here%26#039;s an article I wrote that will tell you more about synthetic vitamins and the alternatives you can take. http://www.organic-home-online.com/organ...

Reply:Regular drugs (some of the) are more poisioness then herbs.

Ginkgo biloba rarely may cause headaches stomacheache or an allergic reaction as well as restlessness and irritability. Not to be used with antidepressant MAQ inhibitor drugs like phenelzine sulfate, aspirin and Coumadin. May cause rash, diarrhea and vomiting in doses over 240 milligrams of concentrated extracts.

Goldenseal is not to be used for more the one week It decreases the absorbtion of Vitamin c. Leads to deficiency. If Pregnant, have high blood prssure hypoglycemia.or allergivc to chamomile and marigolds

Supplement and Vitamins ....too much?

I am trying to sort myself out and after reading up on nutrition I have started taking some supplements. It seems like I need a pill for everything but at the moment I am taking:

Iron

5-HTP (50mg)

Co Q10

Perfectil (Hair,Skin %26amp; Nails)

Evening Primrose Oil (3000mg)

Vit E

Vit C 1000mg

MSM 1000mg

B Vit Complex

Chromium

Ginseng

Ginkgo biloba

Hyaluronic Acid 50mg

Flaxseed Oil 2 tbsps

I also have some other things that I take but not everyday, green food powder, bee pollen, brewers yeast. soya protein powder and lecithin. I use these either in my porridge or smoothies a few times a week.

I also currently take a daily antibiotic for acne.

I am using supplements to help improve my general health, to improve my skin, help with depression and migraine and assist with any short fall in my vegetarian diet.

It seems quite a lot really and I am worried about any possible problems all these may cause me but I sort of feel I need all this at the moment.

What do you think?

Supplement and Vitamins ....too much?
Hey there!

I am also a vegetarian with acne. Ok. I%26#039;m no nutritionist, but I have read extensively about supplements for pretty much the same reasons you have. I have to say, you might be taking too much.

I say this because it sounds like you have doubt in your heart about this and are truly wondering if you are taking too much, and I believe that if you have this gut feeling you are probably right. Also, the amounts of each vitamin you are taking is a bit too much.

I won%26#039;t go over the whole list, but I%26#039;ll just comment of some of the supplements you mentioned:

1000mg of vitamin C is far too much, you should only be taking around 300mg per day.

Some of the other ones, I am not entirely sure about so I won%26#039;t comment on those.

Invest in a really good multivitamin, it makes all the difference. It keeps your body in balance and has all the proper amounts of each supplement. I%26#039;d say only supplement in omega 3%26#039;s, and even then try to just eat more fish instead of taking pills.

It%26#039;s really important to try to get your vitamins from your food as much as you can, and believe me, thats when you%26#039;ll start getting the results you want.

I used to supplement, and was still miserable with acne. But now i just take a multi vitamin every day and eat foods that are high in the vitamins I want, and I feel and look better than when I was supplementing.

Do what you feel best doing, but remember that your body is designed to take its nutrients from food and does so much better than from concentrated versions in pills!

Good luck in balancing your vegetarian diet and vitamins!
Reply:you can get all most all them that you need out of the reg foods you eat everyday

why spend the extra money?

eat healthy and you should have all you need

maybe a extra real 100% orange juice a day for extra C
Reply:Most vitamins are artificial and fragmented and your body is harmed by them more than helped. There have been many research studies with vitamins that have been stopped because the vitamins were killing the people in the study.

The only thing I see on your list that are good is the Q10 and Flax seed (and you are better grinding your own flax seed because the oils get rancid really fast. Bee pollen has beneficial qualities. The GinkgoBiloba is a blood thinner and my doctor said it was what cause my vision loss. so be careful with that one. C %26amp; E need to be balanced or you will have lots of free radicals charging around like little crazy cells.

Your vitamins are best received from whole food. Your body evolved on whole food. One supplement I take that has been research in numerous medical studies and a lot of doctors world wide use it in their practice is JuicePlus+ http://www.juiceplus.com/+Lb53116 It is made from vineripe, fruits and veggies, organicly grown.

I used to take a list like yours thinking I was doing THE BODY GOOD. But found out I was harming myself.

good luck
Reply:my dad takes just as many and he looks a lot better than men his age!!
Reply:I take more supplements than you do, and have been for years, and I am just fine! It%26#039;s nearly impossible to get all the nutrition we need from todays diet!

Real clincal psychiatric help needed, please. (please only respond if you know what you are talking about)?

I%26#039;ve been feeling really down in the dumps for the last 2 days. I%26#039;m sitting in my lonely studio apartment by myself with only the pc screen lighting up the room.

I%26#039;m a male 24yo 2nd year medical student, in neurology block, studying depression this week.

I have been formally diagnosed with ADHD at 10yo, yet have not had satisfactory reviews from the paediatrician since 16yo. At 18yo he basically pushed me out the door because I was an adult but kept writing Ritalin scripts for the next 5 years or so.

I put my foot down about a month ago and trawled the internet and tracked down a clinical neuropsychologist specialising in ADHD research. I%26#039;ve been in for EEGs and a 3 hour long computerised cognitive assessment and I%26#039;m awaiting the results.

I%26#039;ve been completely self-managing, taking 20mg Ritalin, 3000mg Omega-3 fish oil, Ginkgo Brahmi and Lecithin (apparently a precursor for phosphatidylserine)

(to be continued...)

Real clincal psychiatric help needed, please. (please only respond if you know what you are talking about)?

You need help and you know that you need it now - especially because if you don%26#039;t get some real help, your problems will only get worse. I totally understand the urge to self-medicate, and being a med student... you have access to resources that other people do not have. And I totally agree with the above poster, dope is NOT the answer. Talk about a crutch.

Med school is extremely stressful... I%26#039;m sure no one has to tell you that, but it might feel good to hear it. In addition, due to your ADHD, you are already set up to be more vulnerable to the highly stressful environment. Aside from your emotional issues, how is the ADHD affecting your learning and academic issues?

The study that you are in should be able to give you some referrals for a reliable psychiatrist. You should also find some reliable social support; support for any academic needs that you have due to the ADHD; and work on the basics: getting enough sleep, exercise and proper nutrition.

Don%26#039;t feel bad that you are going through all of this... it%26#039;s normal, especially for a young adult with ADHD and especially for a med school student. But in the long run, it will only make you a better, more empathic and sensitive neurologist (and by the way, I don%26#039;t mean sensitive as in touchy-feely, I mean sensitive as in more attuned to the issues regarding dual diagnosis and to the real-life barriers to your patients seeking help).
Reply:you know what you should do...

you know what ur going through...medical students usually go through this...thats why i didnt continue medicine :P

listen, from what i read ur under alotttttt of stress lately.first off, get off ur freaking pc and clean up ur room...lay off the alcohol and dont take weed (ur already depressed...taking depressants isnt gonna help, and u know it)

sounds like you need some sleep and a friend to talk to. you also need a change and get out of ur routine.

install really bright white lights in ur apartment...its proven to change ur mood.

get some exercise done (aerobic workout), it%26#039;ll get ur endorphins to kick in.

dont know what else to say except ur not alone...i%26#039;ve been depressed for the past 2 years...cant remember the last time i was happy...but im against medication,so i try to remedy myself through controlling my activities.

hope this helped...

you are in no shape to study till you get back on your feet

stop running thru your probs in your mind

Reply:I cant give you clinical psychiatric help because im not qualified, and even if I were, you as a med student should know this is not the way to get it.

You dont just have medical student syndrome, thats obvious even to me. it sounds as if you are really struggling from not having your ADHD effectively managed and feeling very unsupported in this and your studies.

You dont need dope, its the worst possible thing you could do. Or alcohol or any other self medication.

Put on you cleanest clothes, wash your face and comb your hair, then go andsee your Dr and explain exactly how you are feeling. Ask to be referred for proper psychiatric evaluation of your mental state now and your previous ADHD diagnosis.

While you are waiting for this to come through (they should hurry it up for one of their own), go and see your course tutor and discuss your work problems with them. You will need to be honest to get the help you need. Then ask for help in finding a counsellor to talk to. Ask your Dr about this too so you get as many recommendations as possible.

Go easy on yourself, but dont let yourself get any further down as it only gets harder to get help if you do. You young medics are valuable, you are the future of medicine so make sure you get there.

I hope I havent sounded harsh. I really dont mean to say pull yourself together because I know how unhelpful that is when you cant. It just feels like one more thing you are failing at, but you asked what you should do. So do it. Before you get to the point where you cant. If you need to talk in confidence, try ringing the Samaritans as sometimes just talking helps you clear your head. I wish you well.

How can I give myself more energy?

I%26#039;ve taken my energising multivitamin with ginseng, probiotics and CQ10 in it. I%26#039;m drinking ginger, ginseng and ginkgo biloba tea, and have eaten some mackerel (oily fish=good for your brain) and some spinach. And I%26#039;ve gone for a walk with the dog. I still don%26#039;t feel very energetic- what%26#039;s wrong with me!!!!

How can I give myself more energy?
First, stop taking all that stuff. When I take ginseng I fall asleep. You don%26#039;t need all that stuff to have energy. Eat more vegetables, get 8 hrs of sleep a night, don%26#039;t eat too much sweets, and keep taking your walk. Sugar for me makes me tired. Also, if you are the type that pushes your snooze in the morning. STOP right away. Get right up when your alarm goes off. Pushing the snooze just makes you more tired. Drink some coffee if you like coffee. I don%26#039;t like coffee and I have more energy then most. I am 45 and have more energy than most 20 year olds. Motivate your brain.

Reply:you are doing all the right things so far , but if you are not having enough vitamin c this could be your problem as vitamin c helps release the energy from your food , this was the problem i had, i was having up to 10hrs sleep a night and was still tired, it was a food doctor(Jane Clark have a look at her books shes fab) that but me on the right track and all it took was a fresh lime in some water-every morning also i haven%26#039;t had a bad cold for 2 years touch wood.
Reply:You need to get your heart rate up. Try jogging with your dog each day. Energy will start to pick up slowly. Also, it sounds like you could use some vitamin B. It gives you boosts of energy. You are eating very healthy. Remember to drink plenty of water, also, 6-8 glasses each day. This speeds up your metabolism.
Reply:If you are taking all that energising stuff then not using the energy you will start storing it and get fat.

Your problem isn%26#039;t that you lack energy but that you are lacking motivation.
Reply:You need a balanced diet - not just supplements, a bit of a fish and a bit of spinach! You need protein, carbs, fruits, vegetables. Some calcium. You need to exercise and get enough sleep. If you are restricting your diet too much then you will have no energy. You need enough calories for your body to function.

And don%26#039;t forget we all have tired days where we have no energy. If it keeps up you might need to see a doctor and rule out a few things.

You obviously care about your body - keep it up! But make sure you keep it balanced :)
Reply:tried energy drinks? if your trying to diet, i know redbull do a sugar free one... also lucozade is a top recomendation
Reply:Stop putting all the weird crap into your body.

Just eat healthy foods and exercise.

Don%26#039;t buy into the gimicks. A simple home made salad and a walk with your dogs will do.

Also, you could try to eat foods with more carbs and/or iron.
Reply:Drink some Brawndo, it%26#039;s got electrolytes!!
Reply:I have to confess to you, I%26#039;m not a fan of supplements! Nutrition needs to come from food, not a plastic bottle from GNC... Your diet sounds good, and you are active, so perhaps your iron is low? Ask the doctor to run blood work on you to check your iron, thyroid, etc... And then there%26#039;s always COFFEE! My saving grace! LOL.... :o)
Reply:Water, Drink lots of Water. 90% of the time that people are tired is because they are dehydrated.

Seriously if you want to start feeling better everyday, drink..

It really works
Reply:well for most people if u work 16 hours stright u might need to take a energy drink called 5 hour enegry or it might be what u takeing all those vitmens or u might try to get more sleep

I want to take the Centrum vitamin. Am I too young?

Hi! So right now im kinda trying to convince my dad that Centrum isn%26#039;t bad for me in any way. I%26#039;m turning 15 in three months, and I want to take the original Centrum, but my dad thinks that i%26#039;m too young to take it. Any comments?

I am also thinking about take Centrum Performance, but then my dad also said no because aparently %26quot;Ginkgo%26quot; is too new, or there could still be somthing wrong with it. If someone could state there opinion that would be great. Thanks!

I want to take the Centrum vitamin. Am I too young?
I started taking Centrum - the regular one - when I was 12, and I never had any problems from it. I took it throughout high school and all the way into college.

I think it actually helped me a lot. I think it%26#039;s a great vitamin for adolescents to start with. A lot of the other stuff on the market has too much of everything in it.

I still take vitamins, but now I take Shaklee brand - they%26#039;re more expensive though, and might have more stuff in them than you need.

How about visiting a nutritionist and finding out what the best vitamin for your body would be? That seems like the safest bet.

But in general, I would highly recommend Centrum. In my opinion unless you live on a farm and eat fresh wholesome foods all day long, you absolutely have to take vitamins.

On a sidenote, make sure you drink enough water every day - your body needs enough water to process vitamins.

I kind of agree with your dad about the Gingko - I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s too %26quot;new%26quot; ... because it%26#039;s been around in Chinese / eastern medicine for hundreds of years ... but I think that teens shouldn%26#039;t be taking ANY herbal supplements, because their bodies might be more sensitive to them and any possible problems from taking them.

p.s. Don%26#039;t take anything with Ginseng! It makes your heart race and makes you feel nervous.

Adhd treatment?

I%26#039;ve always considered myself one of the %26quot;self diagnosed%26quot; adhd sufferers. Recently at work I had severe troubles memorizing details. Out of desperation I tried self medicating with 25 mg Dhea, as well as ginkgo and ginseng suppliments. I hope my results aren%26#039;t a placebo effect. has anyone else had success with these supplements.

Adhd treatment?
I can%26#039;t speak to your specific question, but I have always wondered whether ADHD is possibly related to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Ginkgo and ginseng have stimulant effects, that may be encouraging the body to release sugar from the liver.

If you try a diet that is formulated for diabetics, and in 2 weeks you notice a lessening of the memory problems, then blood sugar may be involved somehow.

At my worst, before being diagnosed with chronic low blood sugar, I could not remember a 5 digit number for the time it takes to walk 3 yards.

Feel free to e-mail me if you wish, for more advice.

What is good for improving memory that does not interfere with my high blood pressure?

I have been noticing a very noticeable loss of my memory.

It is getting worse day by day.

I have heard a lot about Ginkgo Biloba. Does it affect high blood pressure? Has anybody tried Ginkgo Biloba? Please tell me about your experience.

Thanks.

What is good for improving memory that does not interfere with my high blood pressure?
Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements, in the winter months, only. Reduce salt in your diet: eat more curries, hot %26#039;n%26#039; spicy, and sweet %26amp; sour meals. View page 41, at www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on memory improvement.

ginko biloba is a herbal medicine used mainly in cases of dementia of Alzheimer type, i doubt you are one, if so, then you should be examined by psychiatrist in order to get an official diagnosis, memory problems at young age are mostly related to depression.

Wait, you take ALL these vitamins, everyday? The Mens OneaDay is fine, as is the Omega-3 (you need to halve your serving, though), but you%26#039;re clogging up your body with the rest of that stuff.

Your body was not meant to deal with these nutrients in isolated form. I%26#039;m also noticing large amounts of two particular amino acids--Glutamine and Arginine. That%26#039;s fine, but what about the rest of the amino acids you have to have?

Chop most of this out. Ginkgo and MSM aren%26#039;t that great for you, and you can get plenty of glutamine from raw spinach and fish, and arginine is plentiful is as little as an ounce and a half of cheese (real cheese, not American cheese!) You can get more than enough vitamin C and bioflavonoids by eating an orange a day, and at least three other servings of brightly-colored fruits. Besides, too many bioflavonoids will give you dairrhea, and studies suggest they aren%26#039;t as beneficial when taken in supplement form. In fact, some flavonoids turn pro-oxidant (that%26#039;s the bad stuff that damages your body) when taken in supplement form.

If you really want to continue to take all these things, you need to see a doctor, preferably your primary care physician and a registered dietician. Between those two, I imagine they%26#039;ll have a better picture of what%26#039;s going on in your body when you take that stuff.

Wow, talk about overload.
Reply:What you need to do is take all this info to a doctor--a naturopathic doctor, even, if you prefer. You could easily overdose on certain vitamins. For example, vitamin C is very difficult to overdose, while Iron or Calcium can be overdone more easily. It sounds to me like you%26#039;re going a little over the top. As a pre-med student and a person who has studied a lot in alternative medicine, I go for a nutrition drink, a one-a-day women%26#039;s, and some herbal tea in my day, and that seems to keep me healthy. There are some higher-cost methods I used to use, such as colloidal minerals, which I would recommend, though I can%26#039;t afford them myself.

So yes. Do see a licensed doctor about all this, you want to be careful.

Leaving vitamins in car--really bad?

I accidentally left my vitamins and ginkgo biloba in my car today and it was a really hot day. I noticed that the pills in my ginkgo biloba and Q-10 bottles were stuck together. So I tried placing them in the freezer and no luck. I was wondering if the heat and/or freezer has really affected the potency of my vitamins. I had 5-htp, ginkgo biloba, alpha lipoic acid, vitamin c, and multivitamins left in my car.

Leaving vitamins in car--really bad?
yes the heat definately will effect them, i take alot of vitamins everyday and sometimes i take them out and forget to take them and my mum always tells me to throw them out if i leave them out for too long, because the heat takes away from the goodness! every bottle of vitamins says a specific storing temperature on the bottle...id definately just buy new vitamins, because with both the car and the freezer, the vitamins have probably lost alot of their benifits!

Brain booster Supplement?

Forgetting thing easily recently and needed some brain booster. Not sure if I should buy pure Ginkgo Biloba content or a mixture of Ginkgo Biloba with Phosphatidyl and Vitamin content. Anyone tried some good brand and care to share?

Brain booster Supplement?
Omega 3 in fish oil capsules! My mom in law is getting dementia, an I see a great improvement since she started taking them (she doesn%26#039;t call me her sister%26#039;s name anymore and seems to remember ALOT more than before she started it)
Reply:Before you try any of those %26quot;brain booster%26quot; do your research. Most of those have had to change their labels for making claims that were not true
Reply:supplements only work if you aren%26#039;t getting enough of that substance in your usual diet, so don%26#039;t think you can over load on some herb and get a great memory.
Reply:Good quality Omega 3 oils are excellent for regulating brain processes. They can help concentration, depression, indecision etc. Including vitamin B 6 would also be a big help. I can vouch for both-- tried and tested !
Reply:I asked this same question about a week ago and fish oil and Bramhi were suggested to me. I have been on them a week. I had a trauma when I was younger and blocked it from my memory I think it affected my memory ever since as I find it frustratingly hard to remember things. Good luck.
Reply:For memory loss try eating more foods rich in Vitamin B1 (thiamine) ie ~ brewer%26#039;s yeast, whole grain breads and cereals, meat (pork or liver), nuts, legumes such as peas, beans and lentils and potatoes.

also take a multi B complex supplement including all the B%26#039;s ie ~ B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 as they work best as a group..... The B complex of vitamins are essential for a healthy digestive, neural and immune system...... Do not purchase any of the B complex of vitamins individually unless under the specific instructions of a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath.

The need for B1 (and the B complex) increases when we are stressed, during illness and surgery. B1 has beneficial effects on the nervous system and mental attitude and will also aid in digestion and keep nervous system, muscles and heart functioning normally............ The B complex of vitamins will help bolster your system so as you can better deal with the everyday little dramas life presents for us ♥

It is a water soluble complex and as such our bodies can neither produce or store them. Therefore we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the side affects.

When we are placed under added stress the first group of vitamins to be used up will generally be the B complex and as such we need to adjust our intake accordingly........ when you are stressed and generally frazzled simply take another B complex supplement. As they are a water soluble group any excess you ingest will simply be excreted in your urine.

Also, an L-glutamine supplement taken 3 times daily on an empty stomach will also bolster a healthy immune and nervous system and assist in maintaining muscle function....... it also helps maintain the health of intestinal flora and thus is a digestive aid ♥ Glutamine is a natural amino acid and a naturally occuring antioxidant and does a marvellous job for me at increasing my level of concentration and for bolstering my ability to retain information ♥

Other nutrients which are said to enhance your memory and make you smarter are ~ Fish oils (those found in cold water fishes such as tuna and salmon do a brilliant of levelling out your moods, stress levels and attention to detail) as other posters have already mentioned, Vitamine E (i would suggest eating more foods rich in Vitamin E as opposed to supplementing), grapeseed extract, lipoic acid, Vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B12 (cobalamin),folic acid, choline, gingko biloba (i haven%26#039;t used it myself so unfortunately am unable to recommend a brand for you), gotu kola ............ obviously none of them will turn you into Albert Einsteen but you%26#039;ll surely start remembering where you put your keys though buddy ♥

Things that could be robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins are :- eating too much protein, alcohol, eating too much tinned food, laxatives and diuretics, antiobiotics, antidepressants, penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, otc cold and flu medicines.

Also, try to cut back on drinks such as caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks as they are all B complex thieves........ as well as being great at dehydrating you.

When you take your daily B complex supplement ensure that you take it with some type of calcium rich food ie: low fat cheese or milk or a calcium supplement that contains vitamin D3 as they all work in conjunction with one another.

Quite a handfull of information here ........ sorry it%26#039;s a bit long winded but you need to know all this.

Drink loads of fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

I sincerely wish you the best of health %26amp; vitality buddy♥

take care of you♥

What is the chromosome number of Ginkgoes?

Do they have sex (X and Y) chromosomes?

What is the chromosome number of Ginkgoes?
The 2n chromosome number of Ginkgo biloba is 24.

Ginkgo biloba, known as the Maidenhair Tree, is a unique tree with no close living relatives.Ginkgo is a dioecious gymnosperm, male and female are separate trees. The sex chromosomes (XX females and XY males, just like humans) are difficult to distinguish, so the tree%26#039;s gender is not easily classified. The pollen and ovules grow on the short spurts, very seldom on the leaves (Ohatsuki). Occasionally both genders are found on the same tree.It is possible to distinguish the sexes by chromosome morphology, because the female lacks one tiny satellite on one chromosome.

A brain in which a lot of neurons have died,& is long term dementic, needs revival. What nutrients can work?

A 80 year old woman, my wife, lost her memory, in several minor strokes/events, and finally a heavy stroke, may be by a mosquito bite in Florida, in 1997.She was completely bedridden. She recovered to some extent by using Ginkgo Biloba Extract, and multivitamin with minerals tablets. She started recognising her kith and kin. She was given physiotherapy, to help her walk on her own. She did recover her balance and started walking, first with a walker and then on her own with a help by her side.Ginkgo caused her suppurating boils and so was abandoned. She now relies on mega doses of NATURAL VIT. E. and Natural Vit. C. and Phosphatidyl serine complex, %26amp; multivitamin complex with minerals, Zinc %26amp; seleneum. She is slowly losing her memory again- very slowly.

What she gained in first 4 months in Dec.%26#039;97 to March %26#039;98, or so with Ginkgo is now being lost, next 7 years. Are there any other nutrients equivalent to Ginkgo Biloba?

A brain in which a lot of neurons have died,%26amp; is long term dementic, needs revival. What nutrients can work?
YOU CAN GIVE HER VITIAMN B COMPLEX..... CARBS LOTS OF CARBS SAME EFFECT B12 SHOTS ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE....CARBS ARE THE MEMORY FOOD WHY DO YOU THINK SO MANY DIABETICS HAVE MEMORY LOST... THE COMPLEX SUGARS IN CARBS ARE NOT EASILY BROKEN DOWN IF AT ALL AN SO THE BRAIN DOES NOT GET THE NUTRIENTS FROM THEM AND THAT PART DIES OFF... SO GET IT FROM WALMART.... SUPER B COMPLEX THE B12 SHOTS YOU MAY HAVE TO GET A DOCTOR TO SIGN OFF ON THOSE.... LOTS OF CARBS....
Reply:Ginseng and Omega 3 tablets.

Can Ginkgo Biloba help treat asthma symptoms?

I am thinking about taking Ginkgo Biloba to help control my asthma symptoms and I am for people that had success doing this and how much Ginkgo Biloba they took?

Can Ginkgo Biloba help treat asthma symptoms?
According to studies reported at a doctors%26#039; conference in Florence, Italy, in 1986, ginkgo reduces the susceptibility of children to various allergic substances and thus greatly decreases the frequency of asthma attacks.*

I have a recipe for a Ginkgo Throat Spray for asthma. It is used like an inhaler. I gave the recipe to one of my customers and she said it worked as well as her prescription.

1 teaspoon tincture of ginkgo leaves

5 drops chamomile essential oil (optional but helpful)

1/4 cup water

Combine ingredients and store in a sprayer bottle. Shake well before each use. Use as needed to keep airways clear.
Reply:It has no known effect on asthma.

Don%26#039;t waste your time.
Reply:I%26#039;ve never heard that ginkgo can treat asthma. What I%26#039;ve heard is that it prevents Alzheimer%26#039;s disease, vascular dementia and age-related cognitive decline. It is sometimes called %26quot;smart drug%26quot;. I don%26#039;t think it has anything to do with asthma, though. But of course, I could be wrong.

I take 1 75g dispersable aspirin a day. anyone know if i can also take ginkgo biloba as well, thanks.?

Ginko Biloba actually dilates the capillaries. I would not suggest that you take both at the same time, as aspirin does pretty much the same thing. It could cause hemorrhaging since the blood can%26#039;t thicken appropriately.

I take 1 75g dispersable aspirin a day. anyone know if i can also take ginkgo biloba as well, thanks.?
This isn%26#039;t a good idea. May thin your blood too much. At any rate, if you take them together, make sure you notify your doctor or dentist before any procedures.

Is it safe to take a multivitamin, fish oil capsules, echinacea, ginseng, and ginkgo biloba?

I can%26#039;t see why it wouldn%26#039;t be, but it seems like a lot. Also, if theres any other brain enhancing stuff you can reccomend I%26#039;d be interested.

Is it safe to take a multivitamin, fish oil capsules, echinacea, ginseng, and ginkgo biloba?
To Animal Lover: firstly, other than the multivitamin, those are not vitamins. They%26#039;re herbs and roots and one oil obtained from an animal. Secondly, you don%26#039;t think vitamins have been around long enough to know? Uhhhh.........how do you suppose human beings have been reproducing and carrying on generation after generation without vitamins? And herbs? We would have been extinct by now, along with everything else on the planet. What do you think is in fresh food? What about actual pharmaceuticals that have been and still are being produced from plants? Willow bark and foxglove are just 2 of the most commonly known. Not to mention that pharmaceuticals are seriously under-researched and tested before being released to the general public. How long do you think Prozac was researched before being released to people with depression? What about a lot of the anti-inflamatories that are released to sufferers of arthritis and similar diseases? That%26#039;s one of the densest things I%26#039;ve heard in quite some time.

To the questioner: There is a great deal more evidence that vitamins, herbs and roots are safer to take than pharmaceuticals. Sure, there are those that are also poisonous or toxic in higher doses, so do your research. Too much of anything is not good for you. But some herbs, such as parsley, are extremely gentle on the body. Others pack more of a punch.

Regarding taking all of those things together, I%26#039;ve got friends in China that say taking ginseng when you%26#039;re sick is a no-no. If you start to feel yourself coming down with a flu or infection, stop taking it until you recover. Issues to do with your immune system. I%26#039;m not so sure I%26#039;d be taking ginseng and ecchinacea together. I%26#039;d suggest taking one or the other.

Ecchinacea is a herb for strengthening the immune system, not for the brain. There are supposedly 9 species of it that are know so far.

Fish oil has been found to have mercury, PCBs and dioxins in it because of the polluted water fish live in. It may have been safer many years ago to take it as the oceans were less polluted many years ago. My mother used to load me up on it when I was a child. But personally, I wouldn%26#039;t take it now. Take a look at: http://www.environmentaldefense.org/page...

It will give you many examples of fish/seafood and which are the worst on the list for containing contaminants and heavy metals. So I guess it really depends on what type of fish oil you are taking as well. Not something I want to play around with.

Gingko biloba has even been used in Alzheimer%26#039;s patients. My grandmother has been taking it for many many years. She%26#039;s past 90 years old and still kicking. She%26#039;s completely lucid and functioning.

In addition, if you%26#039;re following a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables with whole grain bread and cereal products and avoiding most or all meat, poultry and fish - including avoiding pork - and avoiding refined sugars and sugar substitutes, this should help your brain functions a great deal. Sugar substitutes and things that contain MSG especially have been shown to cause problems with the brain and nervous system.
Reply:None of them will do you any harm provided you stick to the recommended dose.

It%26#039;s lack of vitamins that causes apparent brain slow-down. If you get the dose your body needs, taking more just means you%26#039;ll have the most vitamin enhanced pee in the country.

Fish oil is good for you - over a period of time, it softens the fat content of your body reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The downside is that you tend to get fatty deposits around your eyes - and if you%26#039;re overdosing with vitamin B, these can turn bright yellow, making your doctor think you%26#039;ve got liver disease.

Not everyone gets on with ginkgo biloba. If you%26#039;re taking fish oil, you probably don%26#039;t need it. Echinacea and ginseng can help reinforce your body%26#039;s immune system, but they make you more prone to allergic reactions.
Reply:i don%26#039;t think vitamins have been around long enough for them to know the effect of taking many different things. I would think your liver and kidneys may be affected by taking large amounts of certain things, not to mention your stomach.
Reply:Works for me. They say fish is brain food.
Reply:Sounds good as they%26#039;re all different supplements.

Prob not much else you should take though, just eat healthy also
