Is there any research out there that supports an herb or medication which actually assists memory?

I am looking for anything besides ginkgo biloba....please help

Is there any research out there that supports an herb or medication which actually assists memory?
Melatonin-- you can buy it at GNC or any other health store... It also helps with mild depression.
Reply:No, there isn%26#039;t. Germany is probably the best country to look for answers for herbal meds and if they are truly effective, because Germany has done the most studies on them. However, there is nothing available, according to reasearch and the FDA, that will improve memory loss. Sorry. The best thing to do is to try to keep the mind as active as possible. Force yourself to learn new things, perform tasks with both hands, not just your dominant one, and look for things that will act as brain-teasers, such as games and puzzles that make you really think (Suduko).
Reply:my grandmother swears by cod liver oil. you can buy it at any drug store.
Reply:Try Ginkgo, and/or Ginseng

Herbal remedies - good?

Anyone have tried herbal remedies like ginseng, kava root or ginkgo biloba? Is it good for your body? do you feel the change you expect to achieve? how about long term effect? anything you need to watch? ADVERTISERS DO NOT POST - YOU RUIN THE OBJECTIVITY NATURE OF THE DISCUSSION!!!

Herbal remedies - good?
Herbal remedies are VERY effective, but should not be used unless they are truly needed. Although many people assume that herbs are %26quot;safe%26quot; because they%26#039;re natural, that is wrong. They are powerful medicines that should be used with care.

If you have specific health needs, you can either pick up a copy of %26quot;Nutritional Healing%26quot; by James Balch. It provides a good overview of natural remedies that can be used to treat a large number of medical conditions.

I would highly recommend doing a lot of research before beginning to take any herbal remedy. Some herbs have drug interactions with prescription meds, and some can be hazardous when taken a dosage that is too hgh.

Do you know anyone who knows a lot about herbs? See if you can take them out for coffee sometime and ask them about the different supplements you%26#039;re interested in taking and why you want to take them. If you check the Yellow Pages, you may be able to find Master Herbalists, Naturopathic Doctors, or Integrative MDs who will help you make wise decisions about supplements that will improve your health.

I wish you the best of luck!!!

Reply:I used to take ginseng for many years and my tiredness was

gone after 2 weeks treatment. But watch out that the local

ginseng products are only imitation and not effective. The

original ginseng extract is very effective. This is very

expensive as the process to do this is long. I had to stop

this for 2 years now due to the costs. Specially because y

wife and me both were doing this. For a 3 months consumption

you%26#039;ll have to pay approx $ 400 for 2 persons for 3 months

period. You normally take a 2 months break and start once

more this procedure.

I for myself will now start taking this again. Please note I am

not from ginseng industry(travel industry). So do not

mis-understand.
Reply:i know for fact that taking ginkgo biloba is very dangerous. i had friend who took that %26amp; her entire personality changed. she started actin real hyper, greedy %26amp; doin crazy things. those products are not good. later on life i think there will be dread effects.
Reply:I have used herbal remedies for about 15 years, and with very good results. I will never take a toxic pharmaceutical drug (prescriptions), specifically because toxic pharmaceutical synthetic drugs are the cause of over 200,000 deaths each year in the U.S.A. The so-called %26quot;side effects%26quot; are the effects of dangerous drugs upon your body. Search the Web for Andrew Weil,M.D., a brilliant intergrative physician, who will give you the most accurate, unbiased information re herbal renedies.
Reply:DONT DO IT!!! its really bad for you. people may claim that because its %26quot;natural%26quot; that its safe, but you%26#039;ll see strange behaviors popping up and uncontrolable mood swings
Reply:I%26#039;ve never tried kava root. I know a person with bipolar disorder who tried kava root a couple of times and got manic both times, so it might not be good to use with bipolar disorder. I like gingko for memory support. Ginseng kind of wakes me up without caffeine if I drink it in the morming.
Reply:I have tried Ginseng and I loved it, it kept me alert, I would take it during school and during exams. I prefer it to things like Red Bull.

Ginkgo Biloba, I took it for awhile when I was depressed, I also enjoyed it, I took 5HTP at the same time and seemed to be in a much better mood.

The only %26#039;energy%26#039; supplement I take daily is Prosit, it is from Africa and contains a cousin of the Aloe Vera plant. It cleans your blood and colon, getting your organs talking to each other, this seems to keep my energy levels up.

I am going to add a foot note about 5HTP, I enjoyed using it for a short period of time, but was warned not to use it for long periods.

Good luck,

Rhys

How do I boost my Energy Levels and keep concentration?

I have two problems here lack of and/or diminishing energy as the day progresses and dips in concentration. Most days, I will go for a run (2-5 miles a day), practise 1/2 - 1hr on the piano and go to work (part time). I have just started attending college (part time, three times a week) and I am concerned that I will not be able to sustain my concentration and energy levels. I usually drink one can of red bull a day (just before work), like I said I do exercise and play the piano, which I find both relaxing and I go to bed early. The problem is if I go to bed around 10-11pm I will wake up around 2-3.00 am and then will get back to sleep around 4am. I feel ok in the morning but as the day drags on my energy and concentration saps. I already take Sanotogen Gold A-Z multivitamins as well as Evening Primrose Oil and Ginkgo Biloba - I cannot take Ginseng as I suffer from bad headaches and migraines.

Any top tips to keep my energy and concentration levels up throughout the day, please

How do I boost my Energy Levels and keep concentration?
have you tried st, johns wart it my help vitiamin b-12 is supoost to give you energy to.other than that it sounds like your doing all you can. the other thing is they say if you can take a cat nap for 15 to 20 minutes a day they say that will give you a boost of energy.
Reply:Speed..

comes both illegally and pharmaceutically
Reply:your circulation slows down and your brain becomes stangnat after you have been sitting for 40 minutes. Take 1-2 minute breaks every 35-45 minutes
Reply:Honey red bull equals to 5 cups of coffee with the same proportion of sugar, what sugar does, it%26#039;s that it boosts you for a couple of hours and the you crash, so watch what you eat, a healthy diet can do wonders on you; if you still need extra boost, there%26#039;s these little red bottles thats say 5 vitamines whatever, it helps a lot without the crashing; you can get them in GNC or at gas stations, it will help you.
Reply:Sounds like you are vitamin B deficient. There is a company called Market America. They market 2 products one is called Isotonix B- Complex which will give you energy and possibly eliminate your head aches. The second product by the same company is called Macho Tonix this is an all natural supplement that will give you a 6 to 8 hour energy boost and enhance your mental clarity and not give you the crash effects of red bull. hope this helps.
Reply:You could try switching around the foods that you eat. Make sure you get a larger high energy meal for breakfast and then something lighter at night. It might help you sleep better at night too. Also instead of red bull, tea or coffee before work, you should try fruit juices. Eeeer making sure you are fully relaxed before going to bed might help too (e.g. yoga or just giving yourself 10 minutes without tv/reading). I%26#039;m not an expert but i%26#039;ve tried so many things myself.
Reply:Besides an energy multivitamin every day you could also take chlorophyll, barley grass or wheat grass.

Healthy regiment of pills?

I%26#039;m an 18 year old male who has no known chronic diseases. I would go as far to say that I%26#039;m very healthy.

I was wondering if it was bad to continue the following variety pills: ginkgo, melatonin, and green tea (not a pill).

What if I was to add serotonin, omega3, or both?

Is this bad?

Healthy regiment of pills?
you could get a protein shake. most of the better ones contain all the supplements you are already taking. take 2 shakes a day and you wont have to take pills. you%26#039;ll get the same from the protein plus the benefit of amino acids.
Reply:Do you have problems remembering things? Ginkgo is a good herb to help brain function as it%26#039;s a vaso-dialator herb, but at 18 it should not be necessary. Melatonin is a hormone and at 18 it could cause you harm, check with a doctor before using melatonin, and the green tea is alright and wont do you any harm, but may contain caffeine. You do not need any additional serotonin unless your doctor tells you you do. The omega 3 would be okay as that will help with brain function and helps folks prone to ADD or ADHD.

Sounds like you are anxious to waste your money. Go talk to your Dr. or a good nutritionist. That would help you.
Reply:at age 18- ginkgo is not necessary

drink the green tea instead

I%26#039;d add a Multi vitamin

no its not bad
Reply:I think you are a little confused on your supplements. Add serotonin?? omega3 and ginko biloba regulates your serotonin... It is not bad to drink green tea with all of hte above. Green Tea is the cure all and everyone should be drinking it
Reply:what is the reason for you to take all those pills?

if you%26#039;re eating a balanced diet and sleeping at least 7 hours a night, you don%26#039;t need any of those fad pills.

if you want to drink green tea, go for it, it cleanses your system, but does have caffein so dont overdo it.
Reply:A doctor or pharmacist would be best equipped to answer your question. You don%26#039;t want to mix something that could be potentially harmful to you.

Is mixing these drugs or suppliments okay?

Is mixing, GINGKO BILOBOA120mg/daily(brain food for focus and alterness), L-theanine 200mg/daily(relaxation -- known to help with stress), Antenolol 50mg daily(high blood pressure), and FISH OIL100mg/daily (suppose to help with brain development) okay?

I just want to know if someone out there knows cause I%26#039;ve been taking those every morning all at once and just wanted to see if that was okay. I take two ginkgo biloba capsules daily, two L-theanine capsules daily, one high blood pressure medicine daily, and one fish oil. I%26#039;m thinking of added ONE A DAY FOR MEN too! I Take all of these in the morning all at once.

Is mixing these drugs or suppliments okay?
I have taken that combination before and I am fine. I really think you don%26#039;t need to worry about it. I took WAYYYYYYY more supplements and pills than that. I typed it up for my doctor and she said %26quot;fine%26quot;- %26quot;good job%26quot;. But it wouldn%26#039;t hurt for you to type up a list so your doctor knows everything you are taking. Good luck.
Reply:No, tell your doctor what you are taking (that means all of the suppliments). They might react badly with each other.
Reply:go to webmd.com

i think they do a drug comparison to check for interactions.
Reply:NOT GOOD! Never take to much of one thing and be careful of what you take. Any wrong move could cause serious illness or even death! But your fine now, right?

What supplements will help me think more clear?

i have tried focus factor and also tried some choline pills with ginkgo and DMAE in them. i need some supplements to help me in my math class. i used to be able to think so clear and would be able to understand everything just by taking a glance at it and teaching myself. now i feel like i dont understand it very well. i cant think as clear and quick as i used to. i used to be a very quick thinker and now im a very slow thinker. what supplements would provide my brain nutrients to help me think? or any other suggestions?or any natural supplements to help with depression? i am depressed and ive read that depression causes you to think slow.

What supplements will help me think more clear?
There are a lot of Herbal Supplements you can take, this one is one that I drink. You can check the label on all the products before you purchase anything:

My favorite is MochaTonix

http://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/i...

But you might be more interested in something like VitaMind

http://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/i...

Both links have all the information you need on both products

but if you would like to find out what would best fit your body and what would benefit you the most, I recommend you take a Questionnaire called a Nutri-Physical and get a custom supplement made only for your needs

https://www.marketamerica.com/blittrean/...
Reply:Sure you can take supplements but they really are not going to help you very much. You got to find out what is causing you to have this %26quot;brain fog%26quot; in the first place. Depression may be a contributing factor. How is your sleep lately? Are you waking up feeling like you slept good? Usually you get %26quot;brain fog%26quot; when you are tired. You are probably not getting enough sleep.
Reply:There are supplements that %26quot;say%26quot; they help with depression, but I wouldn%26#039;t recommend them. If you%26#039;re under 18, you need to talk to your parents. It would be best for you to see a doctor. There may be an underlying cause for your %26quot;brain fog.%26quot; If the doctor diagnoses you with depression, he or she will be able to give you the proper treatment. If you don%26#039;t want to take medications, then ask the doctor to recommend and herbal treatment. Although they are herbal remedies, they can be dangerous.

Is an intake of Ginseng tea in the morning and Ginko tea at night going to help me and my brain?

I would like to better my mental ability, specially with midterms coming up, and was referred to ginseng and ginkgo biloba. Since I can%26#039;t pick between the two, and I don%26#039;t like pills I decided to drink their teas. Would that diet work? One cup of each a day.

Or does anyone recommend either or to avoid taking both?

Is an intake of Ginseng tea in the morning and Ginko tea at night going to help me and my brain?
Ginseng and Ginkgo are going to work better TOGETHER than separately. And they%26#039;re going to work best for about 4 hours after you consume them. No sense taking Ginkgo at night.

Here%26#039;s another solution to the non-pill thing. Herbs, Etc. makes a liquid extract called %26quot;Remember Now%26quot; that is alcohol based. You just put the drops in some fruit juice or water and drink. It has Ginkgo, Gotu Kola and Eleuthero (aka Siberian Ginseng) as well as other herbs. You can order it online: http://www.herbsetc.com/Shopping/r/remem...

Or you can buy Ginkgo %26amp; Ginseng as liquid extracts and make your own combo. The extracts are stronger than any tea you can mix up.
Reply:Hello,

it is ok to take both herbs daily. They are both safe. Just to let you know the pills are usually stronger in mg%26#039;s. For your studies and or mid terms i would suggest taking an amino acid called L-phenylalanine, it boosts your concentraiton levels to an astounding level. Its safe and you can buy it at GNC health food store
Reply:A bright brain depends on good blood circulation, balanced meals, good assimulation in the intestines, exercise, regular sleep, BREATHING, meditation, and some herbs. Attitude will help. No cigarettes, alcohol, preservatives, or Big Macs. Lots of raw fruit and vegetables. Fiber from nuts, seeds, and grains will help. See now wasn%26#039;t that easy?
